Good morning and Happy New Year’s Eve!
It has been a whirlwind year hasn’t it? For publishing, the world, celebrity deaths and it has zoomed on by faster than The Flash. Embarking on a new year, for me, is never about looking back. I always take a reassessment of myself and my work — as a mother and a wife and a writer. I always explore the ways to improve without negativity on what I should have done better last year, but what I will aim for this year. In my opinion, a new year is not a time to focus on the bad but on the good and endeavor to be the best person ever. And never worry about what others are doing/should be doing better. Always focus on you.
As the Marvelous Michelle mentioned yesterday, with the upheaval — and terrible business practice — of All Romance Ebooks, a lot of authors are full of conflicting emotions. Sadness, anger, disgust and uncertainty. These are honest emotions and very much warranted and I hope they can find their way through the chaos and find something great at hte end of the tunnel of darkness. Many have expressed that they are conflicted aobut continuing to write. For many, writing is their livelihood and losing an avenue to sell their wonderful work is a hard blow, and I so understand their frustrations. I hope their soul-searching and reflection shows them the path best suited for them. To consider giving up one’s creativity and the love of writing, what some are born to do, is so gut-wrenching, the mere thought breaks my heart.
This business is forever changing. It will stomp on a writer, break his/her heart, and will give a writer the best days of their lives. Resiliency, heart and tough skin will see every writer through. To not write would be a death blow to me. This year things are changing for me on the home front, health concerns for my husband, but writing will still very much be a part of my life.
I hope 2017 brings everyone peace in their writer’s soul, and happiness to their writer’s soul. Never give up. Remember why you write and go from there. Everyone’s path is their own.
I wish you all a wonderful New Year’s Eve, may it be safe and fun. Please take care on your way home from parties and such.
Until next year,
