Magic Johnson abruptly resigns as Lakers' president

He was general manager when I was there and things didn't work out and he kind of went away. "I want to go back to being who I was before taking this job".

"(On Wednesday) I would have to affect somebody's livelihood and their life", Johnson said.

I'm a free bird and I've been handcuffed. In the formal announcement, Johnson said, "ue to the nature of my schedule and other commitments, I don't feel confident that I can continue to devote the time needed to thrive in my role".

Magic Johnson reacts after being introduced at halftime during the NBA All-Star game as part of the 2019 NBA All-Star Weekend at Spectrum Center on February 17, 2019 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Magic claimed he didn't finalize his decision until Tuesday morning. During his conversation with reporters, he said, "Somebody's going to have to tell my boss because I knew I couldn't be face-to-face and tell her. ..." He later told ESPN's Rachel Nichols that he didn't tell Buss first because he was afraid she would have talked him out of it. It's hard when you love a person like I love Jeanie. We will continue the journey.

With the season coming to an end for the Los Angeles Lakers, there are going to be a ton of Lakers rumors this offseason. We are deeply grateful to Magic for all that he has done for our franchise - as a player, an ambassador and an executive.

To call his resignation as president of basketball operations shocking doesn't do it justice. He will always be not only a Lakers icon, but our family.

Williams has yet to comment on if Johnson will join her camp.

Antonio Brown, JuJu engage in Twitter war of words
Former Pittsburgh Steelers star receiver Antonio Brown made a scathing comment about JuJu Smith-Schuster on social media Sunday. Pittsburgh Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin said that he was "disappointed" with the way Brown left the team.

"I thought about [Miami Heat star] Dwyane Wade retiring [Wednesday], and I can't even tweet that out or be there", Johnson said. On his infamous early-season meeting with Luke: "I think everybody blew that up". "I have more fun on the other side than on this side". A short time later, the Lakers released a statement about Johnson's decision.

After retiring and launching several business ventures, he re-joined the team in February 2017, when general manager Mitch Kupchak was sacked and Jim Buss was ousted as executive vice president of basketball operations. Stephen A. says Magic felt betrayed by the Lakers' front office and wanted to bring attention to the Lakers' many internal issues.

Magic Johnson had the media at full attention on Tuesday night. A year of LeBron James' enduring prime was wasted without even a playoff appearance to show for all the struggles. They opened with a 20-14 record, but James suffered a strained groin on December 25.

Johnson, an NBA Hall of Famer, became a much maligned figure in New Orleans thanks to the trade discussions surrounding Pelicans star player Anthony Davis.

Nothing has gone according to plan for the Lakers this season.

A trust with James and "Griff" already exists, but Jeanie Buss will likely have most of the league's decision-makers eager to make an impression to make their own imprint on the L.A. market.
