Samsung wants to implement in-display cameras on future smartphones

Users are reporting when they place the smartphone into their pocket; the fingerprint sensor is activating and waking the screen up.

At its Unpacked event in San Francisco last month, Samsung introduced its very first 5G flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S10 5G.

"Ultimately, we are trying to embed all sensors, including cameras, into the screen display". The company says that it was challenging to punch a hole into the display and while it does consider the Infinity-O Display a milestone, it eventually wants to come out with a flawless full-screen device. Samsung calls this its "Infinity O" display, and it allows the company to expand the size of the phones' screen without sacrificing its front-facing cameras.

The year 2019 is likely to be a watershed for smartphone makers, with foldable phones and 5G technology entering the market, offering the chance for firms to set new standards. At that time this thing seemed amusing but later on, we got such devices and the number of cameras kept on increasing with the quality getting even better than before.

The Infinity-O Display as taken one of Samsung's biggest strengths - its screens - and enhanced then through the holepunch camera that sits in the display. "It's a noteworthy achievement in terms of the display technological advances, though the company's ultimate goal is to create a smartphone with all of sensors embedded beneath the screen". However, there are a number of Galaxy S10 customers who find the hole punch to be annoying and have claimed it comes in the way of standard smartphone experience.

There's no telling when Samsung would be able to launch a full-screen phone. Samsung Galaxy Note 10 or Galaxy Note X will deliver a whopping four camera sensors on the back of the device, accompanied by a pair of selfie cameras, just like Galaxy S10 5G.
