Mobile carriers in the country, which has one of the world's highest smartphone penetration rates, rolled out the latest wireless technology this week on Samsung's new 5G-enabled handset Galaxy S10.

South Korea's three mobile carriers - SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus - held launch events across Seoul for the Galaxy S10 5G, whose base version costs 1.39mil won (RM4,991).

That said, Motorola's hardware costs $480 right now, and while Samsung has yet to announce US pricing for the Galaxy S10 5G, it's safe to presume that Samsung shoppers will be paying more than twice that. "We got a tipoff that Verizon will start its 5G service on Thursday", a government official said. The United States will be next when Verizon launches its 5G network on April 11.

Its speed will be 20 times faster than the 4G and it will allow customers to download the whole movie in less than a second.

DJ Koh, CEO of IT & Mobile Communications Division, Samsung Electronics said the incredible speed and connectivity of 5G is bringing the world closer in line with Samsung's vision of connected living. The South Korean handset and electronics maker warned investors that its profit in the first quarter will be in the neighborhood of 6.1-6.3 trillion Korean won (~$5.36-$5.4 billion in U.S. currency), which in a vacuum is pretty impressive. They switched on the 5G network for a select group of customers Wednesday, making South Korea the world's first nation to roll out the commercial 5G service.
