Lakers Reverse Course On Signing Carmelo Anthony After Losing Streak

The Lakers had been leaning towards signing Anthony for the remainder of the season until losing four out of five games.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Lakers and Anthony are "pausing" talks on a possible contract until Los Angeles can get closer to postseason contention.

The Lakers are 30-35 and 6 1/2 games behind the Clippers for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. The Lakers' star said that he would really have to be convinced to do that by his head coach, Luke Walton, and the team's front office. As everyone knows, James scored the majority of those points in a Cleveland Cavaliers uniform. That came after Anthony had a rocky single season as a member of the Thunder, who acquired him from the New York Knicks the previous summer. After refusing to take a bench role with the Oklahoma City Thunder, he was then traded to the Atlanta Hawks. He's averaging 27.1 points, 8.6 rebounds and 8.0 assists this season.

The Los Angeles Lakers lost their fourth straight game Wednesday when they took a 115-99 beatdown at the hands of the Denver Nuggets, but with less than a minute left in the fourth quarter, fans witnessed a worrying act from veteran point guard Rajon Rondo.

The unsettled environment of the Lakers might have been too much to also add Anthony. "There are obviously things that need to be worked out on both sides. So we'll see what happens".

After James barrelled to the basket and hit a layup while being fouled for his milestone points, the Staples Center crowd gave a rousing ovation to the superstar who joined the Lakers last summer after 15 National Basketball Association seasons spent with Cleveland and Miami.
