Australia floods: People warned about crocodiles and snakes in water

Two other people were plucked to safety from the roof of their auto at Hyde Park nearby.

Townsville residents have reported at least three crocodile sightings in the floodwaters, sharing photos of the creatures on social media.

Ergon Energy's spokesperson Emma Oliveri told the AFP that more than 16,000 people were without power and they are unable to say when the lights will come back on. About 1000 people have taken refuge in those centres.

This made the authorities issue a major flood warning after record heavy rains.
