Rockets Trade Carmelo Anthony To Bulls

Anthony won't play a game in a Bulls jersey, as Chicago is at the beginning stages of a rebuild and doesn't have any need for a veteran power forward. The Bulls have no plans to play Anthony and will look to either trade the 10-time All-Star before the February 7 deadline or ultimately waive him and make him a free agent. Once he finally becomes a free agent, it is believed that the Los Angeles Lakers will be among the teams interested in signing him. He has never played in the National Basketball Association and at 32 years old likely never will.

This move is just the Rockets clearing the roster space.

Anthony, 34, played in 10 games this season with the Rockets, averaging 13.4 points per game.

The teams wanted to complete the deal Monday, but the league office was closed for Martin Luther King Jr.

With Rockets center Clint Capela out several weeks with a thumb injury, the Rockets had hoped to clear a roster spot for Kenneth Faried, who recently agreed to a buyout with the Brooklyn Nets.

Complications over whose draft rights could be included in the deal also delayed the trade.

Anthony is a 10-time All-Star who has averaged 24.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game in his career.

Tadija Dragićević is now the correct answer to the trivia question. "By dealing, rather than waiving Anthony, the Rockets will save roughly $2.65 million in luxury taxes, but they will send cash to the Bulls to offset the team portion of his salary this season". D'Antoni expressed frustration that he was cut as part of the ordeal.
