Like Pelosi, the other top two Democratic leaders, Rep. Steny H. Hoyer of Maryland, 79, and Rep. James E. Clyburn of SC, 78, have no opposition in their bids to keep their positions. They are running unopposed.

Late Tuesday, Rep. Josh Gottheimer, D-N.J., a co-founder of the Problem Solvers Caucus, said in a statement that his group met with Rep. Jim McGovern, D-Mass., a Pelosi ally, who is the incoming chairman of the Rules Committee, as they seek specific changes to the legislative process.

But the ultimate verdict will not come until January, when the new Congress must elect a speaker on the House floor.
