12 killed in California bar shooting sheriff


"Multiple assets from the ATF Los Angeles Field Division have responded to the mass shooting at the Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks", California, according to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, via Twitter. Video shown on local media station showed people with bullet wounds being carried away from the scene.

The authorities said the shooter was dead inside the venue and there were at least 200 people inside the bar attending a college country music night at the time of the incident, media reports say.

Tayler Whitler, 19, said she was inside the bar when a man walked in with his face partly covered by something resembling a ski mask, opened fire on a person working on the door, then began to shoot people at random. Another witness said the gunman wielded what looked like a sub-machine gun.

Squad cars and helicopters quickly swarmed the area. "Likewise, the shooter is dead, along with the first police officer to enter the bar...."
