Mourinho criticism becoming 'personal' - Neville backs United boss

United moved up to eighth in the Premier League standings with a 3-2 comeback win over Newcastle United on Saturday night, but they remain seven points behind leaders Manchester City.

Mourinho's Manchester United team went on to beat Newcastle United 3-2, having come back from two goals behind and Rooney said that the recent run of poor results had reminded him of the hard times during Louis van Gaal's two-year reign at the club.

Embattled Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly told the club's chiefs to get him Inter Milan defender Skriniar and Ac Milan star Alessio Romagnoli in January 2018.

A fresh report from ESPN also adds weight to the feeling that Mourinho isn't quite ready to check out of his Lowry Hotel suite any time soon. So I am sure that is getting said behind the scenes now.

Zizou has been touted constantly as the man who is destined to replace the Portuguese tactician, but the France legend's agent, Alain Migliaccio, has quashed the rumours, insisting to Journal du Dimanche: "I do not think that he will manage in England".

Mason Mount and Jadon Sancho earn first England call-ups
The selection of Sancho and Mount, as well as set-piece specialist Maddison, is Southgate's way of confronting that problem. The 21-year-old has scored three Premier League goals and assisted a further two since his summer move from Norwich City.

"I've spoken about it with him and the truth is that it doesn't attract him".

And while boos echoed around the stadium at half-time - mainly targeted at the club's owner and executives rather than Mourinho and his players - those in the Stretford End were passionately cheering on the squad.

The other players who will leave if Mourinho stays include in-form Luke Shaw and the exciting Anthony Martial as well as Eric Bailly, Juan Mata, Antonio Valencia, Ander Herrera, Ashley Young and Phil Jones.

Prices according to Oddschecker (as of 8 October).
