Woman who confronted Jeff Flake believes her story 'touched him'

If Kavanaugh's nomination is undone by this FBI investigation, we'll have these two women to thank.

On Sunday, he told CBS' "60 Minutes" that the conservative judge's nomination would be "over" if federal investigators determine he lied to the committee.

"One man, somewhere in the country, called my office in Arizona and left a message saying that he was exhausted of my "interrupting our president" and for the offense of allowing Dr. Ford to be heard - for this offense, my family and I would be 'taken out, '" Flake revealed.

"The former five-term senator from MA also called it incomprehensible" that the Judiciary Committee had not sought to speak with Mark Judge, the friend of Kavanaugh's who Ford identified as the only other witness to her assault.

Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., center, spoke with reporters, September 28, after meeting with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Ky.in his office in the Capitol in Washington.

Katie Hedberg of Plymouth, who was one of just over 100 people who came out to protest, said she wasn't sure whether Flake's call for an investigation was honest or if it was a way to give embattled Republicans cover to vote for Kavanaugh ahead of the 2018 midterm elections.

When asked what he thought the chances were that after the FBI wraps up its investigation, "we are going to be in exactly the same place", Flake responded: "There is a chance that that will happen", but added he does think progress can be made. The nominee forcefully and tearfully denied the assault allegation by Christine Blasey Ford, who testified earlier in the day, and separate claims by two other women who weren't called to testify.

Kavanaugh has denied all of the allegations.

USA and Canada agree free trade deal
It replaces the 24-year-old North American Free Trade Agreement , which President Donald Trump had called a job-killing disaster. Canada was left out when the US and Mexico reached an agreement last month to revamp the North American Free Trade Agreement.

However, Tobias said FBI agents were usually allowed to act independently and it would be a "clear conflict of interest" for White House officials involved in Kavanaugh's confirmation process to interfere with the FBI's investigation.

"For the past year, I've been speaking about the condition of our democracy because my conscience has required me to do it", Flake said.

Flake said Ford offered "compelling, credible testimony", but he also found Kavanaugh's "impassioned, very raw defense" to be effective.

"By the conventions of how party loyalists are supposed to behave, I hope to continue to fail my tribe", Flake said.

His visit Monday to New Hampshire, his second of the year, added to the questions about what's next for the 55-year-old, including whether he could launch a primary challenge against Mr. Trump in 2020.

"S$3 oon enough the goal-posts will be on the move once again", McConnell said.

Flake is stoking new speculation about a possible presidential run as he emerges as a central figure in the explosive debate over President Donald Trump's Supreme Court pick.

"You're a disgusting excuse for a human being, and I don't know how you can live with yourself", another caller said. He said he may run - either as a Republican or an independent - if no one else does. "I think it's actually a good thing for Judge Kavanaugh".
