Real Madrid star Luka Modric wins FIFA The Best award

The Real Madrid midfielder won the Best FIFA Men's Player award for guiding Croatia to the World Cup final and winning a third consecutive Champions League trophy with Real Madrid.

The 33-year-old Modric had no interest in discussing whether he deserved the honour. It is my teammates from Real Madrid and Croatia. For all my teammates in the Croatia national team. "This is also for my family, without who I would not be the player I am".

Ronaldo, the victor of the award the previous two years, finished second to Modric.

Luka Modric and Marta have scooped the player of the year awards at the FIFA Best ceremony in London.

"It's a pity. Messi attended the gala a year ago and he didn't win", Forlan said.

Ronaldo and Messi have both won the award five times each, but the Portuguese's only rivals to this year's gong are his former Real Madrid team-mate Luka Modric and Liverpool's Mohamed Salah.

At 1.72 metres (5-foot-8), Modric was doubted early in his career because of his height.

"First of all, I would like to give congratulations to Mohamed and Cristiano for the great season that they've had and I'm sure in the future they will have another opportunity to fight for this trophy". Of course you want the Egyptian firing on all cylinders for the whole season, but that does risk burnout.

Yet, even with Cech enduring an indifferent start to the season under Emery, the 36-year-old has managed to retain his place. The Hale End Academy product, who set up the opening goal scored by the Gunners , was given the highest marks by Football.

Bale's acrobatic volley in the Champions League final for Real Madrid against Liverpool, and Ronaldo's bicycle kick, also in the Champions League, against his new team Juventus, were tipped as favourites to win the award, along with McGree, leaving some fans stunned at the result.

"He was my big inspiration and that team gave us belief that we could achieve something great in Russian Federation".

Normally, Salah's snub would have been accepted and people would simply accept that the players who did make it were simply better or had a better season. Olympique Lyonnais women's team manager Reynald Pedros won best women's coach.

'Not even the best premier league goal of the season from Salah.

Real Madrid's Belgium global Thibaut Courtois won the Goalkeeper of the Year Award. Receiving a pass from right back Joe Gomez, Salah shrugged off Cuca Martina, twisted inside Idrissa Gueye, and curled a left-footed shot around Ashley Williams and into the top corner.

All three enjoyed great World Cup campaigns, with Courtois helping Belgium to a third-place finish.
