Actor Burt Reynolds Dead At Age 82

According to TMZ, Reynolds died of a heart attack. Once again, Reynolds played a suave former football star.

His manager confirms to US Weekly that the "Smokey And The Bandit" star went into a cardiac arrest at a Florida hospital on September 6 and passed away with his family by his side. That film, which details the Manson family and their reign of terror over Hollywood, is set to be premiere in 2019.

He spent his last days dependent on a cane and a wheelchair after he had been ravaged by heart disease and arthritis, and reportedly battled addiction to pain pills. For better or worse, those roles were tailor-made for Burt Reynolds.

At Palm Beach Junior College one of his English teachers Watson B. Duncan III pressed Reynolds to take a role in one of the college's drama productions and Reynolds later won the Florida State Drama Award for his performance. He was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his role as porn director Jack Horner in Boogie Nights in 1997.

Reynolds did not earn a major award for his acting until he returned to TV, claiming an Emmy in 1991 and Golden Globe the following year for his role in Evening Shade.

He still has to clear that hurdle, and the Eagles won't want to put their franchise quarterback in harm's way. Jones made it evident then that he wasn't a fan of being peppered with questions about the Eagles.

Reynolds' personal life sometimes overshadowed his movies, with marriages that ended in divorce to actresses Loni Anderson and Judy Carne and romances with others, including Sally Field and Dinah Shore.

Reynolds, who famously turned down the roles of James Bond and Han Solo, never-the-less forged a film career that marked him out as a singular talent.

"I had a tremendous freshman year, then I had gotten hurt at the beginning of my sophomore year and had my knee operated on", Reynolds says in the interview.

But Burt didn't let his financial issues hold back his career, going on to star in 47 films after declaring bankruptcy. Deliverance, Boogie Nights... some great ones. "I took the part that was the most fun - 'Oh, this will be fun.' I didn't take the part that would be the most challenging", told television interviewer Piers Morgan in 2012.

Reynolds appeared in more than 180 movies and TV series during a career spanning 60 years.
