HBO offers first look at new season of 'True Detective'

The long-awaited trailer for True Detective season 3 is here.

The third season of True Detective stars Academy Award victor Mahershala Ali (Moonlight), John Charles Dickson, Stephen Dorff, Carmen Ejogo, Ray Fisher and Sarah Gadon.

Most people will agree that the first season of 'True Detective' was revelatory and the second was mixed (sorry, Colin) - which means there's a lot riding on Season 3. It also illustrates that we'll be following him on this journey for quite some time, as we see the character at various stages of his life.

"Before you ever knew me, I wasn't scared much", Hays says. We're guessing he's not the only one.

The third season of the anthology series is set in the heart of the Ozarks wherein a disturbing crime occurs and a mystery that deepens over decades plays out in the three separate time periods. Creatively, the season failed to live up to the critically acclaimed freshman effort, which starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. The creator of True Detective, Nic Pizzolatto, will be credited with writing the entire season.

HBO revealed the teaser trailer for True Detective season 3 following the gripping finale of the psychological thriller miniseries Sharp Objects on Sunday, August 26.

Season three will be helmed in part by up-and-coming director Jeremy Saulnier (Blue Ruin, Green Room), whose new film Hold the Dark is coming to Netflix soon. Be sure to check out the new trailer, courtesy of the HBO YouTube channel, for yourself below.
