The renowned singer died on Thursday at age 76, following a battle with pancreatic cancer, and on Monday, Madonna took the stage at Radio City Music Hall in New York City to present the award for Video of the Year and celebrate Franklin's life and legacy. She did it while wearing a traditional dress and jewelry from Malawi. My dream was to make it as a professional dancer.

One person pointed out how Cabello dedicated her Video of the Year award to Madonna after her "self-indulgent "tribute" to Aretha Franklin", writing "And that describes how #VMAs treated Black artists the entire night". "I left Detroit when I was 18, $35 in my pocket", she said.

"Is this about Aretha or Madonna", another wrote. "I thought Madonna was supposed to be paying homage to Aretha but all I heard was her paying homage to herself".

She then spoke about how she went for a backup singing role for a French disco producer, but forgot to prepare a song at the audition.

"That was the beginning of my journey as a singer. and the rest is history", she told the crowd.

"Because none of this would have happened, could have happened, without our lady of soul".

Someone else also agreed, saying 'I was waiting on the part where she talked about Aretha she mentioned her once in the middle.

"I don't know what came over me", she said. We want to bring you to Paris and make you a star.

But "Respect" (1967) was her signature tune and the broadcast ended with a recording of Aretha belting out the Otis Redding cover as the audience danced wildly.
