White House paranoia deepens after Omarosa tapes

Trump tweeted that Manigault Newman was a "lowlife" whom he kept on as a top White House employee because she flattered him publicly, even as others told him she was a problematic, truant "loser".

Trump has also pushed back against Manigault Newman's claim that she had heard an audiotape of him using the N-word.

In the book, Omarosa also claims she saw Trump chew a piece of paper after a meeting with his former attorney Michael Cohen, writing: "Since Trump was ever the germaphobe, I was shocked he appeared to be chewing and swallowing the paper".

Manigault Newman is in the midst of a promotional tour for her book, "Unhinged: An Insider's Account of the Trump White House".

Manigault Newman would not earn national notoriety for being fired, however, until 2004, when as one of the contestants in the first year of NBC's reality TV series The Apprentice, she was dismissed by now president Trump.

Trump has denied that such a recording exists, and that such as word is even "in my vocabulary". "Look at her MANY recent quotes saying such wonderful and powerful things about me - a true Champion of Civil Rights - until she got fired", he continued.

"His mental decline could not be denied", wrote Manigault Newman, who had been one of the Republican president's most prominent black supporters.

The pressure on Manigault Newman increased, as the Trump presidential campaign filed arbitration action against her, alleging a breach of a confidentiality agreement. Before becoming president, Trump himself had a reputation for quietly recording conversations during his business dealings in NY.

But while Trump's move from Democratic donor and NY libertine to über-conservative GOP cult leader took years to execute, Manigault Newman's evolution feels like it's happening in real time.

She held the role as director of communications for the Office of Public Liaison in the Trump administration from January to December 2017.

McClain laughed at the notion that he played the recording for Manigault-Newman, according to HuffPost: "You've got to be bullsh--ng me".

Saudi Arabia's PIF has shown no interest in bankrolling Tesla buyout
A Musk investigation might be a best-case scenario for Tesla shorts, but CNBC's Jim Cramer said an investigation is a longshot. After adjusting for inflation, that's more than the record-setting buyout of RJR Nabisco that closed in 1989.

Mrs Newman - a former star of The Apprentice who was sacked after a stint as a White House adviser - claimed that Mr Trump was recorded using the word while working on the show he hosted for 11 years.

Manigault-Newman speculates that Trump instructed Kelly to fire her to "keep his hands clean", but also questions "Is General Kelly running this country, or is the president running this country?"

"We didn't know", Colbert said.

But his favorite part of the whole story has to be the audio of Trump telling Omarosa he had no idea she'd been fired. "I wonder if she is recording some of the things that we've talked about as well", he told Fox News' "Fox & Friends".

Kelly delivered the news to Manigault-Newman in the Situation Room, which is supposed to be one of the most secure rooms in the White House.

"The president of the United States is calling a woman of color a dog?".

"I wanted to have this documentation", she said, so that when her credibility was questioned, she'd have proof of her claims.

Upon hearing the allegations, Manigault-Newman said she was shocked and brushed them off prior to hearing the tape for herself.

Trump tweeted Monday that Manigault Newman has a "fully signed Non-Disclosure Agreement!" This is his pattern with African Americans. Neither the White House nor campaign immediately replied to TPM's requests for comment.

Ms. Manigault Newman later expressed willingness to cooperate with special counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election and possible collusion between Trump's campaign and Moscow - and indicated that she had already been contacted by his office.
