The Perseid Meteor Shower is one of the most spectacular and highly anticipated meteor showers of the year, and this years' shower will appear on a particularly clear night. "The meteorites from the comet's trail appear to come from the constellation Perseus, which lends the shower its name", Space.com reports. No special equipment is needed, but if you want the best view, it helps to be as far from artificial light as possible.

The Wye Marsh Wildife Centre on Hwy 12 in Midland is hosting a Perseid Meteor Viewing Event.

Tiny pieces of debris that are around the size of sand grains hit the earth's atmosphere at around 132,000 miles per hour, causing a fantastical meteor shower each year.

According to Astrology Ireland: "This year Astronomy Ireland is to take part in a Nationwide Perseid Watch, where you simply count the number of meteors - or shooting stars - you see". This year the moon is only a crescent and sets before midnight making the sky even darker. But "Earthgrazer" meteors, which skim Earth's atmosphere and showcase long, blazing tails, are visible earlier when the radiant is low above the horizon. Meteor showers happen when Earth passes close to the debris stream of the orbit of a comet.

Some meteors only have faint, quick streaks.

And you don't need to be an astronomer to get a good view.

And it's expected to be the last time that this specific meteor will be seen until 2026.

One of the three strongest meteor showers, Perseids will be visible all over India and seen throughout the night.
