Aretha Franklin reportedly ‘gravely ill’ at Detroit hospital

Legendary singer Aretha Franklin is said to be "gravely ill" in a Detroit hospital.

The 76-year-old singer has been struggling with numerous health problems over the past few years.

The same year, she was also forced to deny a death hoax, after fake news of her death spread online.

Aretha Franklin's family are asking for prayers, according to veteran reporter Roger Friedman.

Aretha's final public performance was at the Mann Center in Philadelphia in August 2017, where she reportedly battled through "exhaustion and dehydration" to "miraculously" complete the show. Yet reports by the National Enquirer put her extreme weight loss down to a cancer relapse and chemotherapy in 2017.

In an interview with Norman Jopling, which was first published in Record Mirror in 1968, Aretha talked about another of her popular songs, "I Never Loved A Man".

"I feel very, very enriched and satisfied with respect to where my career came from, and where it is now", Franklin said.

The following month, she canceled a concert in Toronto scheduled for July because of "doctors orders", according to the Daily Mail. Her undisclosed illness has resulted in several concert cancelations.

During her incredible career, the soul star has gained 17 Grammy awards, three special recognition prizes and a Golden Globe.
