Trump's meeting with Putin received lower marks, with 23 percent calling it successful and 35 percent calling it unsuccessful.

Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed a series of talking points during his trip to Helsinki which included nuclear disarmament and banning the placement of weapons in space, says a memo obtained by USA politics journal Politico.

US President Donald Trump and the key members of his team have been repeatedly rejecting all the accusations concerning collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation.

It appears that Putin did not meet with the Kentucky lawmaker.

Trump has pushed for easing tensions between the former Cold War foes, exacerbated by USA intelligence findings that Russian Federation meddled in the 2016 presidential election, trying to tilt the outcome to Trump.

But the White House didn't offer an explanation on why such a high-level communication between the two leaders was revealed through a senator's office and not the West Wing's press office, which is typically standard protocol.

The tweet set off a flurry of speculation, given the controversy sparked by a Trump-Putin summit in Helsinki last month.

The president has called special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into possible ties between his campaign and Moscow a "witch hunt".

He also held talks in Moscow with parliamentarians and pledged to block new sanctions against Russian Federation.

The topics that Paul said were included in the letter are things Paul wished to discuss with Putin, not topics Trump asked him to raise with Putin, the official told CNN. In addition to tensions over election meddling, the two countries are also at odds over Syria and Ukraine.

The draft of the order viewed by the Post would allow the US government to impose sanctions on any foreign individual or entity that sticks their nose in a USA election.

It is also the latest example of Paul making overtures to Russian officials that are out of step with congressional GOP leaders, who have not blessed his visit.
