Trump is drawing criticism for statements about Russia's meddling in the 2016 election.

Trump felt pressure to walk back the controversial remarks from his press conference with Vladimir Putin, White House insiders say. Warner added that he is afraid Trump may have "gotten taken advantage of" in his private session with Putin.

Why did Trump take Putin's side?

Twenty-four hours after saying he did not have faith in his US intel agencies and instead believed the "very strong and powerful" words of the strongman standing next to him in Helsinki who orchestrated Russian interference in the 2016 election, Trump announced today is Opposite Day.

Trump said he was not convinced it was Moscow.

"I think the findings in the House Intelligence Committee have been clear and forthright and they demonstrate, unequivocally, that the Russians employed active measures in an effort to influence our election here", Crawford said.

This idea mimics a stunt from August 2016 when the Kremlin paid a Trump supporter to build a cage and dress as Hillary Clinton. London Mayor Sadiq Khan even granted permission to fly a giant, 20-foot balloon depicting Trump as an angry baby .

Senator Tom Cotton released a statement, saying the reason the relationship between the United States and Russian Federation "remains at a historic low" is that "Vladimir Putin is a committed adversary of the United States".

"Russia attempted to interfere in the 2016 USA election and is no friend of the United States", Risch said in a statement released by his office Monday afternoon.

"There are a number of things that were said that I think really make us wonder what [Trump's] role is with the Russians and frankly what the Russians expect out of him", Albright said.

"Given the unfriendliness of the press toward the president, why should we focus on a press conference?" He's blamed the investigation for deteriorating U.S. -Russia relations.

Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema said in a statement, "Russia is an authoritarian regime that has attacked our democracy and continues to undermine the security of the United States and our allies".

"I thought we were doing horribly before today", the president said. Some Republicans in Congress were more tepid - Thom Tillis and Richard Burr focused their criticism on Russian Federation and not Trump in statements late Monday.

"Patriots need to stand up and reject the behavior of this President", he tweeted.

"In all fairness to the IG report, it was an unbelievable report, except at the end where they tried to be politically correct", Trump said.

Trump said he would raise issues related to "trade, to military, to missiles, to nuclear, to China".
