Trump attacks ‘abolish ICE’ movement on the morning of massive nationwide protest

President Trump on Saturday lashed out at Democrats amid growing calls to abolish the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency.

Trump has frequently focused on the violent gang in his bid to crack down on illegal immigration, using their crimes as justification for his hardline policies, but in doing so has frequently been accused of lying and making up incidents that simply never happened.

In the Times story, ICE agents complain that people are calling the police on them as they try to operate-or even when they try to get coffee in the city.

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of NY is among a growing number of mainstream elected officials now supporting the idea of getting rid of the agency created in the aftermath of the September 11th attacks.

Oregon Democratic Congressman Earl Blumenauer on Thursday announced he will support legislation that would abolish U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif has said that the US should consider "starting from scratch" while Rep. Mark Pocan, D-Wis., announced Monday that he would be introducing a bill to abolish the agency. On Tuesday, U.S. House candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez delivered a stunning Democratic primary upset in NY after campaigning on abolishing the agency, which was formed in 2003 as part of a post-9/11 federal overhaul that created the Department of Homeland Security.

Housed within the Department of Homeland Security, ICE is in charge of executing hundreds of federal immigration statutes.

The president's latest pro-ICE comments come as the movement to abolish the agency have reached it's most popular point yet.

"We have a number of officers with FPS, also law enforcement officers, who have pushed the demonstrators away from the main entry door", Sperling said.

She likened the situation to what followed the white supremacist rallies last summer in Charlottesville, Virginia.

"I think they'll never win another election", he added.

Trump seems to relish the prospect of Democrats making the abolishment of ICE a campaign issue.

The Democratic calls to scrap the agency underscore the balancing act the party is facing on immigration issues. "You know, ICE, these are the guys that go in and take MS-13, and they take them out".
