Morocco's Aziz Bouhaddouz had the misfortune of scoring an own goal as the African challengers went down to Iran 0-1 in their opening Group B game of the FIFA World Cup.

After being dominated for the better part of the match, Iran threatened with counter-attacks as Moroccon defence maintained a high line.

"They know we need to be a family and fight, play and show everybody we love the game like every other player around the world".

Although he was harshly criticized for "letting his team down", Bouhaddouz has also received an outpouring of love and support from Moroccan fans, who don't want him to blame himself for a "mistake that could happen to everyone". In five visits now, Morocco have never won their first World Cup. Spain and Portugal are now tied with one point each, falling behind Iran.

Jose Gimenez scored the winning goal for Uruguay with a brilliant header in 89th minute of the match. A second ever win at a World Cup.

Morocco, who have waited for 20 years to be qualified for the World Cup again, will be facing a grim situation, against the reigning European champion Portugal and 2010 World Cup victor Spain in the next two group matches.

Egyptian Football Association declares Mo Salah fit to face Russian Federation
If not - and it's most likely that Uruguay win - Egypt's match against Russian Federation will be enormous. The Barcelona striker is one of the best strikers in the world without doubt.

Due to U.S. sanctions, Nike are unable to provide Carlos Queiroz's Iran side with playing gear for the tournament in Russian Federation.

Iran will be playing for their third world cup, In 2014 they did well to draw against Nigeria and unsettle Argentina but ended up being one of the weakest teams in the tournament.

Iran's win was also a victory for Asian football. Despite allowing a goal late, the Egyptians' ability to limit Uruguayan star attackers, Luis Suarez and Edison Cavani bode well for their chances moving forward.

At the last World Cup, Asia's quartet of representatives failed to deliver a single victory and combined to earn just three points in the group stage. "We have to just analyze the game and hopefully we can do something good".

This comes as Iran has faced sweeping criticism against Iranian women being banned from attending football matches.
