The company has hinted the launch on their Weibo account with a poster showing large "6".

Recent reports have indicated that the Xiaomi Redmi 6 will be coming in three variants-one low-end Redmi 6A, generic Redmi 6 and a top-end Redmi 6 Plus (or Pro).

The 3GB RAM + 32GB storage variant will be for Rs 9,999 while the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage of the Redmi Y2 is for Rs 12,999.

It is a device that tries to strike a fine balance between different features - and as such makes certain compromises that may not go down well with most users. This time, the smartphone has a dual camera setup of 12MP and 5MP.

The device will run MIUI 10 based on Android Oreo. The phone features a 5.45-inch full HD+ display with 19:9 aspect ratio.

However, Greenpeace applauded companies which were beginning to eliminate single-use plastics from their shelves and checkouts. On the World Environment Day, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said "Reject single-use plastic".

During the event, the Chinese company also launched the MIUI 10. Their success can be metered by the success of their products, such as the latest feat of the Redmi 5a becoming the most-selling Android phone globally in the first quarter of 2018.

The Y2 also comes equipped with the same core hardware, with the 625 SoC running the show. The phone sits right in between the Redmi 5 and the Redmi Note 5 series.

While it might seem like the launch of just another phone, this launch is important for Xiaomi's future.

On the rear, we have a dual camera setup and a rounded fingerprint scanner. The battery is smaller as compared to Redmi Note 5 but it has HD+ display. The device has now made its way to India as the Redmi Y2 with most of its specs and design elements intact. The base variant of the phone is said to carry 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, while the high-end variant is expected to come with 4GB of RAM and 64GB on inbuilt storage. It will also be available across offline partners at a later date. This device supports dual 4G and VoLTE along with other connectivity options such as Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS and a micro USB port at the bottom. The Mi phones are Mix 2, Mi 6, 5s Plus, 5s, 5, 4, 3, Note 2, Max 2, and Max. At the front, the smartphone gets a 16MP selfie shooter which features a LED selfie-light, AI Beautify 4.0 and Face Unlock capabilities. It should be noted that Redmi Y2 from Xiaomi will be a rebranded version of the Redmi S2, which was launched in China earlier this year. The device comes with a 4500K selfie light which Xiaomi claims can produce white light similar to what we see in our surroundings.
