Ex-FBI official McCabe gives memo on Comey firing to Mueller

Rosenstein played an important role in that episode, having written a memo faulting Comey for his handling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation that the White House held up as justification for President Donald Trump's decision to fire the FBI director. Trump tweeted before taking off on a fundraising trip to Texas.

Rosenstein appointed Mueller as special counsel one week after Comey was sacked.

Oh for Pete's sake.

The Times reported that McCabe had turned in his memo to Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating whether Moscow colluded with President Donald Trump's campaign to meddle in the 2016 us election.

The multi-page letter blasted Comey over his investigation of Trump's Democratic presidential opponent, Hillary Clinton. Trump tweeted. "The Corrupt Mainstream Media loves to keep pushing that narrative, but they know it is not true!" The Inspector General said then that McCabe misled its investigators who were reviewing his decision to permit details about internal feuds over Clinton investigations to be disclosed to the press.

In the document, whose contents have not been previously reported, Mr. McCabe described a conversation at the Justice Department with the deputy attorney general, Rod J. Rosenstein, in the chaotic days last May after Mr. Comey's abrupt firing.

The president has dubbed the revelations of the Federal Bureau of Investigation informant as "SPYGATE" and called it "one of the biggest political scandals in USA history".

ABC cancels Roseanne over racial tweet
Disney chief executive Robert Iger tweeted his approval: "There was only one thing to do here, and that was the right thing". Following Ms Barr's tweet, one of Roseanne's consulting producers, Wanda Sykes, said she would not be returning to the show.

The president's assertion, in a morning tweet, is at odds with comments he made in a television interview past year in which he said Comey's stewardship of the Russian Federation probe was on his mind when he made his decision to dismiss him.

On Wednesday night, Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani referred to Mueller's team as "a lynching mob" during an appearance on the FOX News program "Hannity".

By the inspector general's telling, in seeking to advance his own interests, McCabe authorized two Federal Bureau of Investigation officials to talk to the Wall Street Journal about a story he believed would cast him as standing in the way of a probe of Hillary Clinton's foundation. "I faced great pressure because of Russian Federation".

But CNN reported in April that Rosenstein has consulted with the career ethics adviser at the Justice Department about this issue and continues to oversee the probe.

The report shows the investigation in total cost almost $10 million between October and March.

The Justice Department says a large portion of the costs - about $9 million - would have been spent regardless of the special counsel's appointment because they relate to support staff and other costs the department would have already incurred.

Has Robert Mueller taken a recent interest in a memo drafted at the time of James Comey's firing as evidence of obstruction? As of 2018, US attorney salaries were capped at a little over $164,000, according to the department's pay scale.
