Gowdy's statement was made after he was asked if Trump may have obstructed justice when he asked Sessions in March 2017 to reverse the decision that recused him from the Russian Federation probe, as reported by The New York Times.
Giuliani added that when Sessions first recused himself from any oversight of investigations into Russia's interference in the 2016 election, he told Trump he wasn't sure how he would've handled it in Sessions's shoes.
November 18, 2016 - President-elect Donald Trump announces he intends to nominate Sessions to be the next attorney general. "There are lots of really good lawyers in the country, he could have picked somebody else!"
Trump directed White House counsel Don McGahn to lobby Sessions not to recuse himself, according to the Times report, and during a dinner at Mar-a-Lago apparently attempted to persuade Sessions to reverse his decision. Speculation that Sessions is about to be fired has never gone below a low boil, and at times it bubbles furiously.
"I would have considered it", Giuliani told the Huffington Post.
U.S. officials have disputed this characterization to CNN, saying a confidential intelligence source was not planted inside the campaign.

Trump has often railed against Sessions' recusal from the case, voicing frustration that it has left him without someone he feels should be loyal to him at the country's top law enforcement agency to protect him from the year-long probe headed by special counsel Robert Mueller. "Donald Trump is entitled as President of the United States constitutionally to have any discussion with Jeff Sessions".
The FBI began its probe of possible collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russians well before Election Day. Gowdy oversaw the investigation as chairman of the House Select Committee on Benghazi.
The Times reports that Trump "berated" the attorney general and urged him to remain in control of the investigation.
On Twitter and in public, Trump has repeatedly denigrated the law enforcement institutions and their leaders - calling his attorney general "beleaguered", top leaders at the Federal Bureau of Investigation "crooked" and even putting the word "Justice" in quotes to denote his disdain for the department.
Comey's firing is a central focus of the special counsel's investigation into whether Trump tried to obstruct the inquiry into whether his campaign had ties to Russian Federation. And try as they might, the men and women of the department, in terms of serving the American people, that criticism has got to be demoralizing.
"They likely would not be so specific as to outline the things they are seeing, because they don't want to blow their investigation", Campbell said. The South Carolina congressman responded by distancing himself from Trump.
