The game, which is coming to PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One, was originally announced at last year's E3.

Hopefully the game will be a polished experience when it launches next year.

That's according to an earnings call by publishers THQ Nordic, who stated that the shooter is now anticipated to release in the early months of 2019.

At The Game Awards 2017, it was announced that the latest instalment in the Metro series would release this autumn. Publisher Deep Silver now expects the game to arrive in 2019.

"The development of Metro Exodus is progressing well; we are all really excited by what we are seeing", their statement read.

Inspired by the novels of Dmitry Glukhovsky, Metro Exodus continues Artyom's story in the greatest Metro adventure yet. It, however, did say that both the games are "still under evaluation for setting a release date".

Metro Exodus will make some substantial changes from its predecessors, including more side quests, the removal of the military ammunition economy system, a more open world, and a decreased focus on the titular underground metro. "Therefore we've moved the release date to Q1 2019 We know this will be disappointing news for fans, but at E3 we will be revealing lots of new gameplay from a never before seen environment".

It must be noted that last month, THQ Nordic announced that it would be skipping the E3 this year to focus on the World Cup, which starts on June 14 in Russian Federation.

According to their execs they now have 54 projects in development, including new signings for inXile Entertainment's Wastelands 3 and The Bard's Tale 4.
