North Korea suspends talks with South scheduled for Wednesday

The threats to call off the June 12 meeting between Kim Jong Un and President Trump in Singapore throw into question recent indications of progress between the two nations.

National Security Advisor John Bolton said at an interview on May 13 (local time) that the US government's permanent, verifiable and irreversible dismantling (PVID) means every nuclear weapon should be dismantled and transferred to Oak Ridge and uranium enrichment and plutonium reprocessing capabilities should be removed. The North did not reveal the number of spots it will give to non-Korean journalists, according to the ministry.

The five-member North delegation, led by Ri Son-gwon, chairman of the Peaceful Reunification Committee will include railway, sports and inter-Korean economic cooperation officials. Some analysts question whether the dismantling of the site is aimed at destroying evidence. The meet is scheduled at the border village of Panmunjom in the Demilitarised Zone (DMZ), the world's most heavily guarded border, separating the two countries.

Seoul's Unification Ministry said Tuesday that the meeting will discuss ways to carry out peace commitments made during the inter-Korean summit. They also agreed to stop all hostile acts over "land, sea and air" that can cause military tensions and clashes, and to resume temporary reunions between war-separated families.

Moon said Trump, as well as the people of the United States, Japan and South Korea, would not be able to accept an incremental approach.

But there are lingering doubts on whether Kim will ever agree to fully relinquish his nukes.
