Gabriel Jesus' stunning last-gasp victor gave Manchester City a narrow victory over Southampton, taking Pep Guardiola's side to 100 points for the season - a feat never previously achieved in the Premier League.

City announced the contract extension for Ederson on Sunday, the day the Premier League season ended.

This has happened before, both when Manchester United won the Europa League last season while only finishing sixth, and when Chelsea won the Champions League in 2011/12. City began to show a little more of their usual attacking fluidity in the second half but chances remained at a premium for Guardiola's side, Raheem Sterling hitting the post and John Stones seeing his header tipped over the crossbar.

Guardiola's formidable City side set new records for points gained, goals scored and games won in a Premier League campaign by beating Brighton 3-1 on Wednesday evening.

Extending that form out over the course of 38 games is now the challenge for the German to deliver a first league title since 1990. But there is something a bit unusual about the enormous collapses of the last three seasons. "I get the assists and I look good".

"So far, it was always a bit, 'Come on, let's not talk about it, we have to play this game and this game first.' Now, we will be ready and that's really cool".
