Magnitude Earthquake Felt in Dana Point

The United States Geological Survey reports a preliminary magnitude 4.5 quake struck near Cabazon, CA on Tuesday.

No immediate damage was reported in Cabazon according to ABC 10. The quake occurred at 4:49 a.m.at a depth of 8 miles, the USGS said.

At 4:57am, two minutes after the first event the Cabazon area felt a strong aftershock measuring a 3.2 magnitude. "Historically, the area around Mt. San Gorgonio is the only part of southern San Andreas fault that produces smaller quakes", Jones said on Twitter. More than 6,700 people had reported feeling it by 5:30 a.m. on the official USGS website.

Residents of Southern California were jolted awake early Tuesday morning as a 4.5 magnitude quake was felt by millions. According to a map based on those reports, the largest quake was felt as far north as Santa Clarita and Palmdale in northern Los Angeles County and as far south as Tijuana, Mexico.
