Wolf Pack men's golf makes first NCAA Regional since 2007

The fields for the NCAA men's golf regionals were announced on Wednesday. Six different regionals will be contested across the country and the top five teams from each regional will advance to the championship site in Stillwater, Okla., that will take place May 25-30 at the Karsten Creek Golf Club.

University of Arkansas, Fayetteville Coach Brad McMakin, who led the Sooners to the 1989 NCAA championship during his playing days, is leading the Razorbacks into their 11th consecutive NCAA regional.

"We've played them in some form or fashion every year for the last four years", Chapman shared. 14 Columbia at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships on February 17.

Last year, FSU braved the chilly conditions out at its regional in Sammamish, Wash., in the Great Northwest and finished in the Top 5 to reach the NCAA Championship.

"It's the kind of golf we play", Bearkat head coach Brandt Kieschnick said after the selection show. "I can't wait to get to Oklahoma and start competing".

There are six NCAA Regional sites, featuring a combined 81 teams (31 automatic bids to league champions and 45 at-large invites) and 45 individuals not on selected teams. The teams include Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas and Texas Tech.

The other teams in the regional, in order of seeding, are Arizona, Purdue, Colorado State, Saint Mary's (Calif.), Central Florida, Jacksonville State, Georgetown and Central Connecticut State. Smith started six games and appeared in all 31 games with 112 rebounds as a sophomore, playing in 16 games past year. It's the first time the No. 29 sophomore has earned a berth to the NCAA Championships.

The other five regional tournaments will be conducted in Bryan, Texas (Traditions Club; Texas A&M, top seed); Columbus, Ohio (Scarlet Course/OSU Golf Course; Oklahoma State, top seed); Kissimmee, Fla. She has a 24-12 overall tally on the year after a strong fall, in which, Novotna claimed the ITA Atlantic Region title and represented the Hokies at the ITA Fall Nationals.
